Part 2 is gonna take longer to come out than I thought, I wanna add as many details as possible so you guys get just how insane these people are.
Without spoiling too much, all I can say is I’m not the only one who’s heard them, and I even recorded them several times.

PART 2: The arrival of weird “French” people in my life 🤨
We moved into a new apartment (see the apartment layout) in another building about 2km from the old one in '''November 2020’’’. In the neighborhood, I’d never run into any French people, but pretty often at night (sometimes once or twice a week, sometimes nothing for weeks) I’d get woken up and could hear a French woman talking. Sometimes it sounded like she was getting laid and whispering, sometimes it felt like she was talking about me (she mentioned someone working remotely, which fit me) and always talking shit!

The apartment we moved into had been renovated recently but the soundproofing sucked since it’s a pretty old building. When you’re in the bedroom and someone’s in the bedroom next door, you can hear everything—luckily there’s almost never anyone in that apartment. Or at least, that’s how it looks, since the lights are almost always off. I just remember when we first moved in, I saw the silhouettes of two young people in the kitchen. When I was in the kitchen I could kind of see them, but both apartments have frosted glass in the kitchen, so you can’t see faces. And after that, I must have seen some old dude in the apartment from the kitchen window like ten times.

Here’s the apartment layout so you can get an idea:

During the day, nothing at all, even though sometimes I felt like I was being listened to, because I swear I could hear someone snort when I was joking around with my girlfriend or family.

We lived in a 12-story building with a rooftop on the 13th, 6 apartments per floor, and we were on the 11th. When you were in the bathroom, the window opened onto this tiny little shaft, like a square meter, super narrow, and it echoed like crazy so it was impossible to tell which apartment the sound was coming from. And it was through that window that I felt like I could hear people speaking French from time to time.

One day I remember there were two young people, a guy and a girl, talking to an adult, and their convo was so dumb, like “he looks smart, etc…” but it sounded far away, not from the bathroom window of the next apartment, and I couldn’t even tell if it was French or if my brain was just making it up, that’s how bad the sound was.

Anyway, one night in June 2021, I was sitting on the throne in the bathroom (I swear I do more with my life than just hang out in the bathroom) with that same window, and I hear people singing happy birthday in the local language, I don’t really pay attention, but right after they start singing Happy Birthday in French, so obviously I’m like, okay, there really are French people in this building!

I don’t remember why but later I hear a guy and a girl talking in French, from that same group of French speakers, and I hear a girl, talking like a total airhead, making racist comments (my girlfriend’s mixed) and other dumb shit about us, saying there’s another French person living here too.

The next morning, I tell my girlfriend, like, I don’t know who this fat b*tch is , and I’m pretty sure I heard a muffled “shut up” from some chick, probably the same nutcase talking about me, but the sound was all muffled. I think it was coming from the apartment upstairs, but I’d already walked past the front door and it wasn’t obvious if anyone actually lived there. I left it at that but kept talking about it on the phone with my family, saying there’s some crazy French chick listening to me.

After that, for a few months it felt like things calmed down, but every now and then there’d be some weird neighbors speaking the local language who seemed to be talking shit about me (from what I could hear, they acted like they were the elite, but like, discount version, racist and dumb as rocks) but same story, I couldn’t really tell, and it didn’t really affect my daily life so I just let it go.

But regularly, maybe once a week, in the evening between 6pm and after 1am, when I’m home and the living room window’s open, I get the feeling that somewhere on my street, there’s that same French/French-speaking chick going on and on about me, repeating dumb stuff about me and my girlfriend. But I can never figure out which apartment it’s coming from, it feels like it’s from an apartment on the same side of the street as me, pretty high up. Same vibe, some wannabe elite chick who’s clearly an idiot.

Meanwhile, I start asking the concierge, my landlord, and other people in the building if they know who it could be, but nobody “knows.”

End of 2022, by coincidence, an old client wants to work with me again, on a project that’ll last several months, so I’m super hyped and tell my close friends and my girlfriend on the phone, and once again I hear some crazy chick who acts like I personally attacked her just because I managed to land a second client while still working for the first one. And that’s when everything changed! And everything goes great for a month or two, but one day I remember I was working from my bed (I had AC in my room and yeah, I’m kinda lazy) and I could hear a guy and a girl speaking French about me, “plotting” and wondering what they could do to piss me off. I thought that was super weird!?? After that, at night, I started hearing French speakers talking about me every single time, like they were obsessed, like I was their only topic of conversation.

From what I could tell, some of them were salty because they were earning local wages and were fantasizing about how much I might be making (even though I barely ever talked about money with anyone but my close friends, and I’m definitely not from a rich background!). And it pissed me off ‘cause I was getting woken up EVERY NIGHT in our apartment by these idiots talking about me, and that’s the problem, the reason this whole story pisses me off, they were waking me up every single night. Like it was a game for them. And it’s been like that since November 2022 (and still going, even though I’ve moved since!! That’s when I realized these people are next-level nuts. More on that later…

From now on I’m just gonna list all the WEIRD SHIT that happened up until we left our rental in May 2024. So a bunch of weird situations, probably forgetting a lot, up until we bought our place (and that’s why I insisted we not move again, didn’t want to get stuck in another long-term rental contract, even though apart from these problems that were REALLY getting on my nerves, the apartment itself was perfect for us)

One day I put up a sign in the elevator, written in French, saying if anyone had a problem they could come see me in my apartment on the 11th floor. And that same day, as I was coming into the building while the sign was still up, I saw a bald gym teacher, around 35, who I’d seen a bunch of times in the building, walking with another girl I think I’d seen once before at a Halloween party on the “public” rooftop. They were pretty far away but I’m like 90% sure I heard him say “what a fag” to the girl, right after leaving the concierge and then they looked at me ‘cause I was just coming into the commercial lobby of our building. The weirdest thing is I ran into this guy loads of times in the elevator when I still lived there and he had a believable local accent and a deep voice, which sounded like one of the guys I’d hear at night, but the sound is always kinda muffled so it’s hard to be sure. He used to go to the same gym as us back then. (I’ll talk more about this guy later)

1/ One night I yelled out the bathroom window ‘cause you could hear them super clearly (I even have a recording) and asked what their problem was? They didn’t answer! I just heard the guy with the southern accent say “Is he the one yelling?” but that was it, I think it was on the private rooftop (which, by the way, doesn’t even officially exist). The entrance to the rooftop is far from the open area and it’s not easy to hear from outside. I heard that southern guy yelling another day, when I was moving my bed in the bedroom, before going on a trip ‘cause the noise was bothering him.

And going back to our apartment, I think I heard this guy say “he saw me leaving the apartment, what do I do?” but again, since I’m not sure, I can’t just go pick a fight with some random dude and the sound was distant/muffled.

8/ ANOTHER REALLY WEIRD THING! One night we’re lying in bed about to sleep, talking to each other, and I hear people commenting on our conversation in real time. The worst part is it’s not coming from next door! I suspect it’s coming from the private rooftop or another apartment. I can hear them through the open bedroom window, it’s like there’s an echo with the building across. They comment on what me and my girlfriend just said and the southern guy goes “the idiot doesn’t get it.” But the creepiest thing is it’s coming from far away!! I’m almost 100% sure it’s from the private rooftop, which is 2 floors above our apartment, or maybe from an apartment around the 4th/5th floor of my building?? At that point I really started wondering if they’d found a way to listen to us (and yeah, I know saying that makes me sound nuts but I’ve never had auditory hallucinations before)

9/ One night I hear these assholes talking shit about me as usual, hiding somewhere, and it seems to be coming from a higher, outside part of the building next door, and at the same time, I hear a young guy, maybe in his 20s, whose voice comes from our building, probably above us, saying: “They’re so dumb, they’re too loud! You can hear them yelling from here!”

Anyway, everything got worse when they decided to “torture” me by screwing up my sleep, and it became a real problem! Basically, from late November 2022 until we left our apartment in early 2024 I was getting woken up almost every night, several times a night (and my girlfriend too but not as often). I’d hear them talking about me all night, sounded like a bunch of drunks at a party rambling about me, I didn’t get why there were always new male voices, different from before. I know it was about me ‘cause they talked about me having 2 jobs at the same time and “making good money.” And basically they just said horrible stuff about me, my close friends who’d visited, and my girlfriend. (Looking back, I realize it was just pure provocation).

After “these new people” (several guys and at least 2 girls and an older woman) showed up, one day I heard one of the guys say “we’re gonna make him snap,” another day one of them said “it’ll be easy, a guy like that who’s not comfortable in his own skin” (I guess being a dev = not comfortable in your own skin) I think it was coming from the apartment above? Not sure.??I answered back a few times, saying stuff like “Come see me you losers!”, “Can you shut up you trash, I’m trying to sleep” :D?And apparently some of them got “triggered” when I called them “losers.”

The weirdest thing is, none of them ever tried to actually contact me. I know reading this it sounds like I’m totally paranoid but I’ve gone on trips and weekends where I never hear these psychos. Same during the day when I’m outside, I never have this kind of problem. Never had anything like this before. And I want to stress that between all this and my job, we’re trying to live a normal life so I couldn’t just put everything on hold to spend 100% of my time tracking down these psychos.?And it’s not like I didn’t try, I wandered around the building loads of times. When I’d go up to the door of the apartment above, there was never any noise and the lights were off.

Hey bro, I read your story carefully. Honestly, it’s well told, you really set the mood, but I’ll be real with you: be careful not to fall into a paranoia spiral.

You seem to have a good life in Brazil, you’re chill, working remote, but it feels like you’ve started focusing on random stuff (noises, voices, comments you think are about you). When your brain is on alert or stressed, it can easily connect dots that don’t actually go together. And the more you try to find a logical explanation, the more you risk getting stuck in your own head.

Thanks for the support. I know it sounds weird but I really feel like the whole point is to make me paranoid. But yeah, I keep a healthy routine on the side: cardio + lifting + eating well + almost no alcohol + no drugs, not letting myself get caught up and fall into some crazy conspiracy mindset.

Actually, since last night, when I was in bed hearing the usual nightly provocation, I realized that maybe the answer has been right in front of me since I moved into this new apartment.

We renovated the place for months and moved in, but guess what, it's the same old story, I still hear psychos taking turns almost 24/7 to mess with me and pretend I’m schizophrenic, and I know that by saying this, I lose the credibility of 99% of people reading this. I manage to record it but it’s not super clear, because honestly, trying to prove a neighbor is harassing you from the other side of the floor/ceiling is just a massive pain in the ass, since directional mics pick up all the background noise like the AC, cars in the street, people walking by, etc.

And actually, when we moved into this building, the downstairs neighbor, a Brazilian/"Egyptian" woman named Lucia who speaks Portuguese and French, introduced herself as a “lawyer” and “doctor,” and was weirdly friendly. And we fell for it, because I thought, finally a neighbor who speaks French and seems nice…

Turns out she’s a total nutcase. I often hear men talking but sometimes I also hear a woman’s voice, all raspy from life and cigarettes, and I didn’t make the connection at first, since she’s so fake when you run into her in the building entrance. But it’s her!

And honestly, the signs were there, her apartment is totally abandoned, she lives alone, hoards everything, it reeks of dog shit near her place and she’s clearly got Diogenes syndrome. She tells all sorts of crazy stories, like how she used to be rich and married and lived in a villa, but then she split up and had to move into her current apartment, and that’s why she hoards so much crap. She’s convinced the “end of the world is coming” (??) and stores tons of meat in jars, and several times a week, we have to put up with her cooking that smells disgusting: somewhere between a nasty fart, sweaty armpits, and meat.

But we just thought she was a bit weird, nothing more, but actually she’s a sadist who gets off on annoying people.

And it turns out she probably knows the psychos who were harassing me in the other building on the other side of Copacabana, because weirdly enough it’s still going on and she’s joined in on their weird game.

I’m still trying to figure out why they do this. Feels like there’s no real point, maybe they think if they’re lucky I’ll go paranoid, and if not, at least they’ll have wasted my time and peace of mind (??).

My current theory is that among these stalkers, there are several who are Arab/North African who decided to stalk me/piss me off. I know saying this makes me sound like a fascist but honestly I don't care, I became a freelancer thanks to a former Algerian friend/colleague and I'm not like that.

Why I think that:

- When those cowards were harassing me in 2022/2023, some of them always called me the "cé-fran", kept saying "wesh" (I know that's super common) and another one said I was "zarb" (I remember because I had to google it to see if it was even a real word).

- Back in my old apartment, I think I shocked a few of them when I said "Who still believes in religion in 2023", I heard someone say "is he for real saying that?".

- More recently in our new place (about 3km from the old one), a guy called me "kuffar" (again, had to ask chatgpt what that meant).

- The bald gym teacher in the old building who I thought I heard speaking French from far away kinda looked Arab (not sure though)

- When I was at the gym near my old building, I saw 3 super skinny, not very tall guys, probably in their 20s, looked North African and underfed, I remember looking at them and I'm pretty sure one of them had fragile sexuality because I swear he said "why is that fag looking at me".

- Weird thing: in my old building I once saw 2 guys and a girl, they looked North African, the two guys were short, like 1m60, with broccoli haircuts kinda like this:

And more recently one day in the elevator, in our new building, I saw a guy with the same look and broccoli haircut but not sure if it was the same people, but same height, same skin color, same haircut.

- I've heard these nutjobs say several times "He doesn't get that we're his enemies"

- One of these idiots saying, he doesn't get that we can't do what he does (talking about my remote job, can't remember exactly how he put it)

Among the psychos harassing me, I feel like there’s a "Selma" involved. That name keeps coming up. I even remember once during a carnival block party, some random dude showed up out of nowhere to ask me if I knew Selma: and nope, not at all

That would explain why most of them keep rambling on. I talked briefly in Portuguese the next day with one of those nutjobs through the window, 'cause he was smoking at his window above ours, and he told me it was just a fight that happened.

And in 2022 I think, one night around 1 or 2am, there was a group of people talking about us in the middle of the night, keeping us awake, so I banged on the ceiling with a broom and yelled "Shut the fuck up you shipping fee bastards!!". And I think one of them yelled back, "I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" (Jeoffrey Baratheon type, sadistic and fragile?)

The next days/weeks, I remember hearing a guy say "I'm gonna ruin your dreams!" while I was working super early. I went out of my apartment to listen at the doors above and below, but there was zero noise so it was impossible to tell where it was coming from. And when I got back in my apartment, I could hear him say "Oh he's pissed!! He wants to beat me up!!"

And I feel like ever since then, these lunatics have been totally invading our privacy, provoking me, keeping me from sleeping, all just to push me to snap.

I have the name of the owner of the apartment above ours back then, could be a lead… And why would they go so hard on a guy like me? Why did I hear one of them say "it pisses me off that he's got problems because of my family", I get the feeling it's a family of super rich people, and/or just super sadistic with like a dark personality vibe:

I don’t know why but sometimes I get hung up on weird details. Back when we were still living in the other apartment, early 2021 I think (not sure), we were at the Smartfit gym near our place, one evening around 5pm, and there was another personal trainer (guy in his 30s with hair) who also lived in our building (I’d run into him in the elevator sometimes) and he was with a client at the leg press, and he said something while looking at me, and then both of them looked at me, and for some reason I heard him say “herdeira”.

And actually, that was when it was still just some light harassment with a “French girl” I’d hear talking about me at night, like in the evening through the window, no idea where it was coming from, or sometimes I’d be talking at home and I’d hear a girl instantly commenting on what I was saying, just trying to stir shit up. Once, I don’t remember what I said, but I heard her say “Ouuu sa clacheuuu”

I remember when my sister came to visit me on vacation, I told her about this weird French chick who was getting on my nerves, that I hadn’t heard her for a while and we ended up thinking she was probably just a tourist. (Actually, right when I said “...maybe she was a tourist”, I’m almost sure I heard her giggle)

And then, before the harassment got worse, I think I heard her talking with another guy, both of them sounded pretty young, maybe in their twenties. They’d roast me from time to time, but always hiding like total cowards, one time he said something dumb like “É sa fé de la muskuuu”. And I realized the guy’s voice was probably the same one I heard one day around 5am roasting me, saying “jeu vé te niké té rèveuu”, or another day “i se croi rich”. Same thing, once I joked on the phone with my dad “I make as much as Macron” (just for laughs) and that little shit commented “la onte”.

I’ve already heard some old guy say a few times “é sé dé jan com sa ki von nou gouverné dem1”, I thought he was talking about me but maybe it was about those heirs.

Honestly, that would explain why some of them said they didn’t want to run into other French people, and living in Rio’s south zone undercover could let these young psychos/weirdos live it up in peace.

That would explain why I’ve heard a young guy say “I hate that it’s my family causing him problems” a few times.

I’ve heard these messed up kids say a few times that they told all their classmates about it, maybe in French schools in Rio, or maybe not.

Timeline-wise, it went more or less like this:

- Nov 2020:
We moved into the apartment next to Place du Lido in Copacabana

- From Nov 2020 to maybe late 2022:
Soon after we moved in, I was on the toilet and I heard a “young” guy talking with an adult saying “il a lère intelijan”
Weird harassment now and then from the French girl, around 20, and also another guy about the same age, I could hear him trash-talking my wife and me in the evenings, coming from outside, I’d hear it through the windows facing the street but couldn’t figure out where, maybe from a rooftop.

At the same time we were asking everyone (owner, building manager, neighbors, doormen) if any French people lived in the building/neighborhood. In September 2021 (I think) we got woken up at 5am by some assholes jumping up and down in the room above ours. I’d regularly hear young French people talking about me, especially a girl who said “pourkwa t a rio?” (and of course I couldn’t answer unless I yelled) or sometimes a guy saying “c kan ki va se baré?”

- Late 2022: maybe this is when it happened, I’m not sure, that I tried talking to those distant voices (because basically, when I hear them it’s usually from the bathroom window) and these assholes just ignored me. I lost it and asked them several times “why are you hiding you idiots?”. And maybe that caused a big misunderstanding, because not only were they hiding like little shits to harass me, but maybe they really were living in hiding. And I’d answer most of their provocations every day. And maybe it was just to provoke me so I’d look like a violent guy and they could play the victim. I’d hear them talking about hiding out, saying they weren’t supposed to be there, “mon pèr i sé pô kon é la” (?)

- Late 2022 / early 2023: After that I started getting harassed professionally by several people I’d never heard before / tortured remotely in an “invisible” way, see the link I shared earlier about cyber-torture, without being able to understand why or how. I remember when it started, I think I heard that guy with the nasty voice saying “sa me soul de fère sa a se mek, i me rapel un pote de promo”.

And after that, it never really stopped, even though we moved 3km further away in May 2024.

Maybe it’s some special service for ultra-rich people? Or maybe some salty stalkers who got brainwashed and think they’re heroes? Or just some weirdos who took over with some super twisted game

Maybe they realized I could hear them talking late because it took me a while to try talking to them for nothing, since before that I wanted to talk to them face to face but I gave up because I never saw them.

It's probably some really rich retirees who are bored and just trying to kill time.
They usually connect through Facebook groups, and once they've picked a target, they don't let go. I guess you just ended up in the wrong apartment at the wrong time.
